Apple is testing a welcome change for its "Liquid Glass" design in the latest iOS 26.1 developer beta.
Since Apple introduced the transparent Liquid Glass look at WWDC, some users have reported legibility issues, finding it hard to read text against the glassy backgrounds. The new beta addresses this directly.
In the beta, you can go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Liquid Glass and choose a new "Tinted" option. This makes the interface elements more opaque (less see-through) and frosted, which improves readability. The original transparent look is still available as the "Clear" option. This new setting is also available in the iPadOS 26.1 and macOS 26.1 betas.
Bonus Security Feature
The iOS 26.1 beta adds another useful toggle. You can now turn off the ability to swipe open the camera from your lock screen. This can prevent others from taking photos with your phone, even if it's locked.
You can find this new toggle in Settings > Camera > Lock Screen Swipe to Open Camera.
