If you’ve ever accidentally opened your iPhone's camera while trying to check notifications, Apple has some good news for you. The upcoming iOS 26.1 update is set to deliver a small but significant feature that users have been requesting for years.
Apple is finally giving users the ability to disable the camera gesture on the Lock Screen.
In the latest beta version of iOS 26.1, a new option has been spotted in the Settings app. Under Settings > Camera, you will find a new toggle labeled "Lock Screen Swipe to Open Camera."
Switching this toggle to "off" will completely disable the quick left-swipe gesture that launches the Camera app from your Lock Screen.
While quick camera access is convenient for capturing moments, it has also been a source of frustration for many. It's incredibly easy to accidentally trigger the camera, and it also meant anyone could pick up your locked iPhone and start snapping photos (even if they couldn't access your photo library).
Until now, the only way to prevent this was to disable the Camera app entirely, which is not a practical solution for most people.
This new toggle gives users more control over their device, balancing convenience with personal preference.
Apple is expected to release iOS 26.1 to the public later this October, alongside updates for iPadOS, macOS Tahoe, tvOS, watchOS, and visionOS.
